They were originally called Hi-Toro, and wanted something more friendly so became Amiga corp whilst they were still based in Los Gatos. No doubt they were aware of the Spanish meaning. Allegedly the fact it came before Apple and Atari alphabetically helped the choice.
After the joystick and joyboard (joyboard was also the source of why Amiga crashes are called Guru meditations) production died off, they were left with only Lorraine, so Amiga became the machine name too...
