Screw these "veterans" that ignored the warning signs as they became multimillionaires. Now it's too late. I specifically remember Matt Cutts lying and spinning through his teeth as Google decimated legitimate websites through updates that surprisingly increased Google's click on ads and prices.
- raphlinus 7y agoI know he made some people angry, but I very much consider him one of the good people. So much so that I cited him by name (along with three others) in my goodbye letter as people I missed and whose departure signaled a change in culture. BTW, I'm one of the main people quoted in this article, and feel it turned out pretty well. Feel free to ask me followup questions, though I don't guarantee answers.

- freedomben 7y ago"In the Plex" was one of my favorite books. Have you read it? If so, did you agree with its analysis? How accurately does it portray Google in 2019? Thank you for being willing to answer questions!
- raphlinus 7y agoI actually didn't read it, so can't really answer, sorry.
- pcwalton 7y agoSomeone had to stop the cottage industry of spamming Google around 2011. Sites like Mahalo were ruining search for everyone. Black hat SEO is pure rent seeking that leaves everybody worse off. Matt Cutts did the right thing.
