I don't think the argument is that a rich individual should pay more in taxes to feel personally more altruistic. There is specific policy that can only be enacted if all wealthy people pay more in taxes, such as medicare for all, or even getting rid of the deficit. A single rich contributor does literally nothing to change policy when they volunteer extra in taxes
- ericmay 7y agoSo then say “I support Medicare for all” not “I don’t pay enough taxes”. If you’re wealthy enough you can just pay for health insurance for a select number of people while protecting your wealth. There are a lot of things you can do that are not “complain but do nothing”.
- OGWhales 7y agoThis is such a ridiculous argument that I don't know how to respond it to other than to say stop gatekeeping the act of advocating for higher taxes on the wealthy. They may have many things they wish to see done that require far higher taxes than they could single handled afford. Why do you care what their motivation for doing this is? The more people advocating it for it the better, at least in my opinion. Even the posers who do it only to stroke their own ego may accidentally get higher taxes for themselves if they keep this up.
- ericmay 7y agoAlright. It seems that you are getting agitated and I'm not sure what about. I made the points I wanted to make, so I'll leave them at that. Saying that I'm gatekeeping is baffling.
