What in the nine hells is a .22 caliber shotgun? Shouldn't it be a .22 caliber rifle? A shotgun tends to involve multiple, random pellets, which doesn't appear

- Retric 16y agoShotgun = smooth boor and they do make them 5.5 mm (.22 inch). If you look at how he is using the firing a lot of pellets is safer and would make the same sorts of holes.
- CWuestefeld 16y agoBut seriously lacks accuracy... and he needs pinpoint placement.
- thankuz 16y agoDoesn't seem to be an issue w/ him. Wonder what happens if he misses, or messes it up. Seems like it could take quite awhile if you weren't a great shot, and weren't absolutely dialed in each time. Laser sights maybe? Closer to the canvas target? Who knows.
- sp332 16y agoUm... did you see the article? :-) He holds the gun very close to the "canvas".
- unwind 16y agoThe http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Springfield_Armory_M6_Scout http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Springfield_Armory_M6_Scout seems to be .22 caliber shotgun, designed as a "survival gun" for downed pilots.
- billswift 16y agoThe Scout is a double barrel gun with a .410 shotgun and a .22 rifle; it is not a .22 shotgun.
- thankuz 16y agoTypically shotguns come in one of several calibers: 10, 12 & 20 gauge are the most common, but .410, 32, 28, 24, 16 & 10 gauge along with 9 mm and .22 rimfire calibers have been manufactured. He could have also been talking about what's referred to as an "over under" type shotgun. They are usually double barreled "over and under" rather than "side-by-side" and usually have a .410 on the bottom and a .22 long rifle on top. Either way, it would have been accurate, however I am not a rifle expert, nor can I see what rifle he used to produce the artwork.
- michaelcampbell 16y agoInteresting; I used to have a .410 over/under, but both barrels were .410. I didn't even know a .401/22 combo existed.
- billswift 16y agoI haven't seen or even heard of any in decades, but there were some smoothbore .22 "rifles" and pistols made for firing shot capsules (they could fire ordinary bullets too). The ones I know of were intended for "snake medicine" where rattlesnakes were common. The reason for the smooth bore is that firing shot capsules out of rifled barrels leads to "blown patterns", that is areas where there are no pellets, especially towards the center of the pattern which is where you are actually aiming the gun.
