`xsv` can do far more than just join and select, such as searching, filtering, partitioning, ... For me it's the first choice when I find myself with a CSV file to work with. I've also encountered situations where just getting some raw data from a (slow) database and "querying" it with xsv ended up being the fastest option to get the results I wanted.
