- t-writescode 7y agoA strong upvote for Thinking Fast and Slow. I think it should be required reading in school, or at least parts of it.
- jgalt212 7y agoKeep in mind that the findings in Chapter 4 have NOT been replicable. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thinking,_Fast_and_Slow#Replication_crisis https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thinking,_Fast_and_Slow#Replic...
- tunesmith 7y ago(Un-replicable.)
- t-writescode 7y agoFor a book of 38 chapters, that’s not half bad!
- DavidSJ 7y agoIndeed, it's only 1/38 bad.
- vowelless 7y agoIndeed. Kahneman actually wrote a comment on the blog post that surfaced this issue: https://replicationindex.com/2017/02/02/reconstruction-of-a-train-wreck-how-priming-research-went-of-the-rails/comment-page-1/#comment-1454 https://replicationindex.com/2017/02/02/reconstruction-of-a-...
- sgdpk 7y agoReading "Why we sleep" right now and enjoying it very much. It covers a lot of research, and Walker manages to tell a story and get you the bird's eye view of what the research means. Definitely recommend.
- pmoriarty 7y agoFlowers for Algernon was great, but I'd strongly suggest reading the short story and avoiding the novel. The short story was lengthened in to the novel and was ruined, in my view, by all the Freudian-influenced attempts to sexualize and psychoanalyze the protagonist. It was a real let down after the brilliance of the short story, which had absolutely nothing to do with any of that.
- gapo 7y agoI felt the opposite - the attempts to paint the protagonist with run of the mill human qualtiies led me to emotionally invest in him even more. This makes you experience the gut-wrench even more.
- drieddust 7y agoWhat are your impressions of "Active Portfolio Management" ? I am asking because have a lot about passive investing and why it works.
