I think there are enough hobbyists interested in home manufacturing (of all sorts of kinds) that we’ll eventually have low barrier to entry home semiconductor fabs. They’ll probably sacrifice performance for simplicity — I can’t imagine a home fab ever being cutting-edge — but for most applications that’s fine.
