What filesystem are you using? ZFS? You don't have any HFS+ or APFS volumes?

Correct, I use ZFS for my home directory. I do use APFS for everything else. But I’d have preferred to keep my Dropbox folder under my home so I got rid of Dropbox altogether.

To be honest the market for ZFS support must be quite small, and the semantics just different enough to cause unpleasant bugs, so I wouldn't blame them for that. Interestingly, there are signs that they have been working on support for a wider range of file systems: https://itsfoss.com/dropbox-brings-back-linux-filesystem-support/ https://itsfoss.com/dropbox-brings-back-linux-filesystem-sup...
