I’ve rarely enjoyed conversations or networking at conferences I’ve attended. It probably is a good use of the time, but man is it dreadful. I think a lot of people must enjoy the opportunity to talk to others who work in the same part of our field. I’d just rather talk about pretty much anything else. Whatever value I’ve gotten from them has always been in the talks, so for me a conference needs to have interesting speakers.
