Well, a new HTTP status code or header could be created for sites that are closing, then if a browser navigates to the website, it could prompt the user for action? e.g. update bookmark, archive, or email site admin (if on the hosting side).
- kortilla 7y agoMost sites close quite abruptly (domain didn’t renew, web server crashed, site was “modernized”, etc). Most link rot is due to the fact that people aren’t actively trying to keep things alive. An HTTP code won’t help with that.
