Hey mate, article author here. At work right now so don't have time to read and respond to your post properly but wanted to say thanks for writing the emacs<->quartz bridge at BAML. I found it and brought it back to life and it kept me sane for the 18 months I worked there by allowing me to use emacs instead of QzDev. If you are ever in London I will buy you a pint.
