On another thread someone was talking about the possibilities of the use of big data on medical records, but people pointed out some restrictions, be it HIPAA or other legislations regarding personal medical information, that would prevent that from happening. TBH I think we benefit from research having access to such data, if it means to open new venues for development of better and cheaper drugs. But it sure leaves me scratching my head, maybe because the way it happened, for profit company selling user DNA data to another for profit without any cashback to the customers.
