Lise Meitner and the Discovery of Nuclear Fission
- chmaynard 7y agoI posted this article earlier today. The history of science is fascinating to me. Jeremy Bernstein, the author of this article, is one of our truly great science writers. He writes mostly about the history of physics. He has written many books, and most of them are still available. Towards the end of my time living in Silicon Valley, I began reading about how it all got started. The building that housed the Shockley semiconductor lab was just down the street from me in Mountain View. Shortly before I moved back East in early 2016, the lab was torn down to make room for a new building. Almost no one noticed. Most residents of Silicon Valley care very little about its history. That needs to change.
