I always wondered with big brands never did this. Seems like a win-win: let them do free work and the market select for the best to hire.

- arkitaip 7y agoBecause it means losing control over their brand. Who knows what some random youtuber will do, who they are, etc. It's just not worth all the legal headache.
- BiteCode_dev 7y agoThey do it anyway. And it saves you the cost of the cat and mouse game. You cannot win this unless you create a dictature. There is Mickey porn and fascist Pepa pig anyway. So why not collect the benefit of having real fans making great content instead attacking them. E.g: nintendo killed an incredible fan made metroid game. It seems so short sighted.
- genezeta 7y agoSomething similar happened with Sonic Mania and SEGA [0], hiring some people involved in various fan versions and ROM hacks. It worked out well. [0] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sonic_Mania#Development https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sonic_Mania#Development
