Ask HN: How do you test your serverless architecture?
Hi HN,
We have a largely serverless architecture (API Gateway, Lambdas, DynamoDB tables, S3 buckets, nothing exotic) running small but growing production workloads.
It was very easy to get started, but we're really starting to feel the pain of how everything ties together when events occur, testing, slow feedback loops while waiting for CF to build everything, and proper rollback strategies for interconnected services.
We use SAM for local testing where possible and have some hacked together integration testing (e.g. fire event, then check if the expected record exists in the Dynamo table) but it is not smooth or scalable.
We are considering going with traditional server apps for some parts, but many of the same problems will remain.
I would be grateful to hear how you achieved a smoothly deployed, cloud-based architecture with 25+ engineers working across multiple teams, including best debugging and monitoring practices.
Thanks!
