Not just you. My $0.02 is that it is a shift from ad-driven approaches (as in showing ads) to consensus shaping approaches that focus on data mining. The huge quantities of bad actors -- idiots, assholes, paid trolls, blatant propagandists -- also requires mitigation. We've had locks and walled gardens for hundreds of years, and human nature hasn't changed. No surprise the same thing is happening on the intrawebs.
