There is nothing challenging in her work, as another comment noted, but there is also nothing honest in it. Zardulu is an attention-seeking persona with nothing to say aside from “Look at me!”
- aqme28 7y agoHer work is explicitly about mythmaking and the laziness of modern media. Her work was all about "fake news" before the term (and the trend) existed.
- gatherhunterer 7y agoArt speaks for itself. If you have to sit down with a reporter from the Washington Post and explain it then the art itself is not the goal.
- paggle 7y agoPizza Rat was literally speaking for itself (in the sense that all viral memes do) before anyone knew the word Zardulu.
- njharman 7y ago> attention-seeking persona with nothing to say aside from “Look at me!” Obviously not (according to OA)! Remains anonymous, interviews rarely, none of her works involve/portray her (just props / hired actors) and for long time (and according to one quote still and to much greater degree) does not even take credit for their works.
- pavel_lishin 7y ago> Zardulu is an attention-seeking persona with nothing to say aside from “Look at me!” Doesn't seem that way to me. It seems like Z's saying that our culture is lacking myths, and set out to create some, and tries very hard to avoid letting us see behind the curtain, at least for some time. It appears to actually be art for art's sake. But I'm actually pretty bummed whenever something like this happens. It makes me believe less in magic and circumstance on the internet. Any amusing video must be scoured for subterfuge and product placement. Any video is suspected of being an ad for Ring doorbells, and I'm half-expecting Jimmy Kimmel to walk into the shot and smugly explain that he staged the whole thing.
