Apple’s most expensive Mac Pro costs over $52k
- drngdds 7y agoIs there a real-world workload that would need 1.5TB of RAM?
- sesuximo 7y agoI'm sure redis would find a way to use it
- dvtrn 7y agoI want to speak to the person who is running redis directly on top of macOS. Stand up, reveal yourself. We promise no harm will come to you or your home directory.
- ksec 7y agoWell there is a Rack Based Mac Pro, I think may be there are some niche use case in server scenario. ( Running Multiple VMs )
- Koshkin 7y agoRAM is used as a disk cache. RAM-drive can also be useful.
- moralestapia 7y agoOf course! That's pretty much the point of supercomputing.
- dharmab 7y agoNo supercomputer in the TOP500 runs macOS (or any OS other than Linux, since a couple of years ago).
- dharmab 7y agoMacOS build/test servers, potentially- but I'm not sure that would be a useful CPU to memory ratio. It may just be that that happens to be a valid combination of memory slots and memory density available on the market.
- sesuximo 7y ago999 for the monitor stand?!
- pbrumm 7y ago$400 for the wheels
- ph2082 7y agoWhat will be use cases for such machine ? Training ML Models ? 3D Rendering ?
- Koshkin 7y agoSame as any other workstation-class desktop out there. Also, a cool box to have. Wouldn’t you want one if it was, say, $2,000?
- ph2082 7y agoSure, If somebody gift me. But, 32 GB RAM - ~$124, Intel Xeon Octa-core (8 Core) 3.20 GHz Processor - ~$400 256GB SSD - ~$65 $589 for above three, rest I guess is for Apple Experience.
- olliej 7y agoLook up the price for 1.5tb of ram in the required size - it’s insane. Similarly the maxed out GPUs are “pro” GPUs which costs thousands each (I have no idea why). CPUs seemed high to me?
- troytc 7y agoI feel like this isn't too unlike the old Xserve's that could get up to a price this high. They're machines with a very, very limited use case, and budgets to match.
