Apple doesn't care about the web (why should they?). Their iAds thing went nowhere.
(please enlighten me if apple is offering an alternative. i d love to use it)
- kitsunesoba 7y agoI would not hesitate to find a paid alternative to a free site/service that tries to control my choice of browser. The moment you try to push me into changing my up to date setup is the moment you’ve lost me as a user forever.
- criddell 7y agoThere's another way to think about this. Privacy is a human right. If your business model is built on violating human rights at scale then I'm not going to have a lot of sympathy for you if technology kills your business. The lesson from Apple is build something great, something that people love, and they will pay you for it.
- buboard 7y agoAgreed about privacy. So how is apple helping websites get paid?

- buboard 7y agolooks good. i d love to see them building an ad exchange on top of it
- macintux 7y agoThey keep trying with Apple News & similar products, but frankly people aren't (for the most part) willing to pay for content they're used to getting for free. See the mobile app marketplace, e.g. I really hoped Apple would get into micropayments for online content a long time ago, but I haven't even glanced at what Apple News+ entails, so perhaps I'm a hypocrite.
- criddell 7y agoThe plan should be to make something so good people will pay for it. Asking Apple to help with that is a little like asking a guitar company to help musicians make money.
- buboard 7y agoif you go by that analogy, it's as if apple is taking away all the tip jars from musicians because they dont like them. wouldn't musicians be right to protest?

- criddell 7y agoThat's a stretched analogy, but I'll go with it. In this case Apple isn't saying you can't have a tip jar, just that your tip jar has to be ethical.
