I have found that, very roughly, some engineers are driven mostly by solving technical challenges and some are driven by building product ("product engineers"). Neither is superior or more capable. Different teams need different types. Ask yourself what work you've done you're most proud of and why, and you can know your rough archetype. Then find a place where you will be rewarded for that type of work.
