Silicon Valley hasn’t innovated since 1978
- eesmith 7y ago> Name one thing in computing that showed up after 1978 that wasn’t either an incremental improvement on a pre-1978 technology or a crappier but cheaper version of a pre-1978 technology. Hey, that's Alan Key's shtick! He even posted it on StackOverflow, at https://stackoverflow.com/questions/432922/significant-new-inventions-in-computing-since-1980 https://stackoverflow.com/questions/432922/significant-new-i... - "Significant new inventions in computing since 1980". That's back when SO was cool. ;) The answers I like best are "Damas-Milner type inference" and "NTP (1985) based on Marzullo's algorithm (1984)". (Most of the answers on SO reflect a lack of knowledge of when some idea first started.) BTW, since this author picked 1978, then VisiCalc (1979) is a good counter-example.
