False equivalence applies here. Barack Obama did not hire a foreign agency to accept laundered intelligence from a hostile foreign intelligence agency to target American voters for disinformation and propaganda to materially affect an American election.
It's not illegal for American companies, complying with American election regulations, to be hired by an American campaign to help with an American election.
It's very illegal and fundamentally a Constitutional crisis to involve foreign firms and foreign militaries in your campaign, however. Our founders discussed this in the Federalist Papers and elsewhere, how protecting our elections from foreign influence was of the most important parts of maintaining soverignity (and helps understand precisely what we lose when we legitimize Donald Trumps work with foreign militaries to attack our own country by limply comparing it to non-equal and legal counter examples).
It has never happened in our entire history, that a candidate for office would work with foreign firms and hostile militaries to attack our own elections. Well, until 2016.

- remotecool 7y agoDemocrat have been using CA for years in an attempt to win elections. Why is it only bad when Trump uses them and wins? TDS is alive and well it seems. Obama hired an attorney, most likely affiliated with the Russian government, to investigate trump during the 2016 election. This was known as the steel dossier. It was plastered all over the news and used as the first attempt to impeach trump with 'Russian collussion'. I could easily see this as Obama conspiring with the Democrats to spy on a political rival. No major investigation has materialized. Hillary not just used a gmail account. She ran an entire email server and had classified emails go through it. Many here on HN temporarily got stupid about the technical implications of this and how much of a crime it really is. Not one charge was brought against her. Bidens son, a fuckup and a drug addict, gets a job as an executive in an oil company, and makes at least a million a year. Biden not only fires the prosecutor investigating this company, but brags about it on live TV. This deserves at least an investigation. Tech companies like Google, Facebook, and Twitter actively stifle the free speech of non-liberals and this will directly affect the outcome of our next and future elections. If this were being run by anyone else, there would be protests in the streets. I could go on. Trumps presidency has been littered with attempts to smear his name with alleged crimes that the Democrats are doing themselves. Everyone does do it. But even if the Democrats are caught red handed, the media ignores it and nobody gets punished. There truly is no justice.
