A lot of boilerplate can be reduced by using Project Lombok. It obviates the need for a lot of this boilerplate. You can annotate a field with @Getter/Setter attribute and it will automatically generate getters and setters for you. You can also do @RequiredArgsConstructor, @Data class etc. I tried Lombok but didn't end up continuing to use it.
