Paypal is a nightmare compared to real merchant accounts. Talking to customer support there is like smashing your hand in a car door. In the long run you're better off with either Braintree (which is fine all by itself) or Auth.net + Chargify/Spreedly/etc. I would switch to one of those options as soon as you validate the business, as the cost is significant early on.
