A microbrewer here in London said it really well: most small breweries go with IPA and in general overdo their hops because it allows to hide faults. Without the overpowering hoppiness their beers wouldn't taste good at all. As a casual home brewer, I try to avoid hoppy concoctions. And at some point I will learn how to do proper German style weissbier...
