Customers are powerless even if the FBI warns them. Real change will come when manufacturers will be forced to deliver security updates for their devices in a timely manner for at least 5 years. Not even new devices are kept secure, high-end Sony TVs manufactured in 2019 are still on the Android security patch level of June 1, 2019. No new updates are available from Sony, despite multiple high-severity security issues being publicly documented and ready to exploit. And more importantly, nobody is liable when security updates are not delivered and customers are exploited using public CVEs.
