I think the Operator pattern reveals a real shortcoming in Kubernetes: there's a wide gap between the core orchestration problem and the many fiddly particulars of individual pieces of software. What we gained in homogeneity for cloud-native software we're now losing in wide heterogeneity of Operator software.
