I'm thankful for my friend who brought me up here to Pennsylvania and saved me from having to continue living with heroin addicts who were constantly accusing me of using them when they were the ones using me. I'm also thankful that he has been there for me for the past few years trying to push me along in the right path, and that I finally got the message and realized that it's time to stop sabotaging myself and work towards my future. I am also thankful that he has given me a position within his company as one of the early members of it as an account manager, and also the opportunities I have identified to write code and automate business processes, as I have not had the motivation or drive to write any substantial amount of code in years. I am also thankful that he has taken a hard line on my sobriety and facilitated an environment where I can finally work towards learning more about my "true" self, not the self that is hidden behind layers of drugs and escapism. Most of all, I'm thankful that for the first time since my son was in my life, that I feel alive and like I have purpose again. I'm thankful to be here in this moment, and I am thankful that I have an outlet here on hacker news to share what I am thankful for :)
