Fascism (/ˈfæʃɪzəm/) is a form of far-right, authoritarian ultranationalism characterized by dictatorial power, forcible suppression of opposition, and strong regimentation of society and of the economy which came to prominence in early 20th-century Europe.
Not condoning the behavior of the US at all.
- meiraleal 7y agoYou just described the US in the world scenario, including forcible suppression of China opposition to US capitalism/imperialism. The strong regimentation is done by US tech and brands. The dictatorial power is the military might and occupations in every corner of the world.
- seph-reed 7y agoI get where you're coming from, I really do. I fucking hate what big corporations have done with, to, and through the U.S. It's bullying, it's oppression, it's borderline slavery, and it's hardcore brainwashing. By loose definitions I'd be willing to call it fascism, but using strong words loosely only makes them weaker. By all means, hate on the U.S. It deserves it. I just don't think fascism is the best word for it.
- cbnotfromthere 7y agoYour position is indistinguishable from that of the original fascist - Mussolini, who was seeing international relations this way (with Italy cast as the poor victim of rapacious capitalist states). Congratulations.
- pnako 7y agoNeither the US nor China is fascist. Fascism means something quite specific, and quite context-sensitive. It has unsurprisingly become a bad word after fascists lost WW2, but it still means something beyond "dictatorial power, forcible suppression of opposition, etc." It's like characterizing communism by mass starvation, political assassinations, etc. Clearly that's not what Marx was writing about, was it?
