Sadly not for all printers, my printer requires an awful app that does everything itself. Not acceptable!
But yeah, Cloud Print doesn't seem to have been particularly widely used or supported.
- LoSboccacc 7y agoyeah but enterprises in general don't own printers, they license them in bulk, there's plenty time to turn them around before the service expires
- snailmailman 7y agoI feel the opposite. My printer supports cloud print, OR an awful app, or just a normal print server thing (idk how printers work) I've always had trouble using the printer except when using cloud print. Cloud print at least works every time, if i try to print another way it often fails silently.
- m-p-3 7y ago> or just a normal print server thing (idk how printers work) I believe most printers nowaday expose themselves on the network using Bonjour/mDNS. You still need the client to know how to talk with it and its drivers, but AFAIK ChromeOS gained that feature some time ago
- manderley 7y agoTry out the "Mopria print service" (mobile printing alliance), most big manufacturers are part of it. They provide a generic driver app for Android that works for mobile printing with models from multiple manufacturers.
- j45 7y agoThanks for sharing, good to hear this is being democratized a little.
- mcguire 7y agoIt "powers the Samsung print service." The one that always says my printer is offline. "Your document may pass through multiple servers. Is that ok?" Sigh. And it printed simplex.
- angry_octet 7y agoAnd the Samsung printer group was sold to HP and all support vanished. I guess they fired everyone.
- tyingq 7y agoI can't speak to "widely used" but it is "widely supported". It's on the specs page for most HP and Brother networked printers, and probably most others.
