Ask HN: Strategies to prevent or reduce bot / fake account creation on website

I have a web app that uses Auth0 to manage sign up and IDM. Growth for my web app has been really good, but I have started to notice a few fake and bot accounts being created. What strategies have the HN community used to prevent bot accounts? What has been effective vs what has sucked? Any tips or approaches for email verification / quality checking?
