The video game Prey2 features similar technology also called LookingGlass. It has a fairly prominent role in the story line.
I wonder if the naming is a coincidence or a nod.
- classified 7y ago> ...coincidence or a nod. That depends on the patent status. Without patent => nod; with patent => theft.
- qnsi 7y agoPatent or trademark?
- setr 7y agoIt's also the name of a game studio with a number of neat titles, some rock band, and perhaps most importantly, sequel to Alice in wonderland: Through the Looking-Glass, and What Alice Found There All of which were probably referring to the same concept: viewing the other side of reality
- djmips 7y agoLooking-glass was just a peculiar literary term for a mirror in the 1800s. A reflective glass you would look at.
- rgovostes 7y agoAlso Sun's Project Looking Glass 3D desktop environment: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_Looking_Glass https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_Looking_Glass
- dwoozle 7y agoIt’s another word for mirror and has cool vintage/steampunk/Victorian associations so it’s going to be used by a lot of different people.
- Sharlin 7y agoIf anything, it's a nod to Looking Glass Studios. Arkane's Prey is intended to be a spiritual successor to System Shock. (I presume that's what you're talking about, even though it's not related to the original 2006 Prey.)
