I would love to use Go just if it wasn’t for the garbage collector

  Go is compiled to assembly. What makes you think it's an interpreted language ?

  Go is compiled. The compiler is so fast that for most programs it looks like it's interpretting the code: go run main.go --------- OP edited in "garbage collector" over "interpreted".

  But the garbage collector only pauses for 100 microseconds... until the next memory operation, when it pauses again. ;-/ More seriously, as of last year at least mark phase pauses could be significant, on the order of seconds for large heaps.
