Trump releases rule requiring hospitals and insurers to disclose rates
- topmonk 7y agoThis is bad since it means that hospitals would not negotiate a cheaper rate for those without insurance, lest the insurance companies find out. This especially affects people of color who are more likely to be underinsured. A racist policy from a racist president.
- bigphishy 7y agoI don't mean to cherry pick this comment as anecdotal evidence, but lately I have been disappointed at the quality of comments on ycombinator. This is comment is vacuous and emotional. Please take some time to back up your extraordinary claims, or else the level of discourse on this website will no doubt degrade to that of Reddit...
- topmonk 7y agoIMO Constantly comparing comments on this site to those from reddit is dragging it down to the level of reddit. > This is comment is vacuous and emotional. Emotional? Vacuous? Why do you think so? It almost sounds like, in a Freudian slip kid of way, you are actually being self referential :). > Please take some time to back up your extraordinary claims It's hard to know what you mean by extraordinary. Care to elaborate?
- jakeogh 7y agoThe sentence means the same thing without the word extraordinary.
- topmonk 7y agoSurely you're not saying I need to provide sources for everything I say, even the most obvious, are you really that pedantic?
- jakeogh 7y agoSurely you need to avoid the question you pretened to reply to.
- topmonk 7y agoI'm not avoiding anything, I just don't have the time to try and guess what I wrote the parent has a problem with and then source it all. If he would just clarify what his issues are, it would help. But instead all I seem to get are emotional tirades which never address my argument.
- jakeogh 7y agoI cant imagine a logical thought process you could have gone through to conclude some people that you carve out would actually want less information. And then to attach your assumption to skin color... https://www.whitehouse.gov/articles/historic-u-s-job-market-continues-african-american-unemployment-rate-hits-new-low/ https://www.whitehouse.gov/articles/historic-u-s-job-market-...
- topmonk 7y ago> I cant imagine a logical thought process you could have gone through to conclude some people that you carve out would actually want less information I said the insurance companies would receive more information, and that would prevent those underinsured from being able to negotiate, lest the insurance companies find out. I don't understand how you could interpret it the way you did... And then you ironically question my ability to be logical, hoo boy! And what does your link on the job market have to do with this?
- jakeogh 7y agoGiving individuals more information is unambigiously a good thing. The link has nothing to do with it, I only included it because you brought up skin color.
- topmonk 7y agoGiving insurance companies this information will make hospitals hesitant to give deals to those underinsured. Corporations will have access to this data, too, you know! > The link has nothing to do with it, I only included it because you brought up skin color. That's some weird reasoning you have there...
- jakeogh 7y agoWould you rather individuals not have this information? --------------------------- EDIT: (comment limit) Without price transparency, it's impossible to shop around. It's also the only way to actually drive prices down, when people have the freedom to shop around, the sellers that charge too much do not make money.
