Great power, etc. When the nypd gets it wrong innocent people die, go to prison, become pariahs and have no recourse against a notoriously violent, racist, and corrupt organization. The nypds rap sheet basically proves they're a gang muscling out the competition instead of actually fighting crime. Their lack of accountability, and refusal to actually purge the bad actors, only fuels the hate for them.
