Wow that's amazing - how do they keep the cruiseliner from toppling over? Just the weight of the hull?
- pwg 7y agoIn one of the cuts there is a view where these tall, yellow, ladder like structures are sitting against the side of the cruiseliner. Those appear to be the supports that prevent the 'captured' ship from toppling onto its side.
- rtkwe 7y agoThe ship they're lifting? It's pretty flat bottomed so they can just build a small cradle under the ship. There's also some tall yellow support (or maybe access to the interior?) structures on one side in the video.
- rwmurrayVT 7y agoIt sits on blocking. There is typically a line of blocks running along the keel of the ship. Then there are two additional lines of blocks off center line that are shaped to the curve of the hull. These two provide support against toppling with the keel providing center line support. [0] Usually they're much higher off the bottom of the dry dock. [0] https://youtu.be/UCHevTrL2Vk?t=24 https://youtu.be/UCHevTrL2Vk?t=24
