Building software is social thing rather than lone wolf thing. I have come to realize that it is much better to hire people who have good communication skills and not be a problem for other team mate no matter how brilliant they are. If they are really brilliant and you want to keep them with special treatment, promote them with a very visible title that clearly tells other why they can not get the special treatment which he gets. But in my opinion if you look deeply these people are more of liability than asset for a general average SWE scenario.
