Good open source citizens usually don't close their code to prevent competition. If you want to go proprietary that's fine, but you're going to get infinite push-back if you continue to say you're a good open source citizen.
- grumpydba 7y agoThose are deceptive tactics. How can one expect to spin it and make knowledgable people swallow it?
- senko 7y agoA company can be good open source citizen without open-sourcing everything. They're not falsely claiming that BSL is open source. They're not switching to "code dump" open source model where they'd just dump 3yo old code on your head. They're not completely closing it off either (which would be entirely legit move if they wanted to). Seems like they're doing the best they can, while still trying to, you know, make a business. Time will tell if BSL is the right move, but looks to me like they're sincerely trying.
- tedivm 7y agoTaking an open source project and closing it is not being a "good open source citizen". It's actually the opposite of that.
