Because apparently no other bakeries existed locally and produced donuts. It’s dough and sugar, the name on the box is meaningless.

- xanamander 7y agoClearly his clients believe otherwise, else he wouldn’t have a market
- skyyler 7y agoyou would do well to research the power of branding :^)
- benbristow 7y agoYou could say the same thing about any chain. "Because apparently no other burger restaurants existed locally and produced burgers". They do taste pretty good do Krispy Kremes!
- pfisch 7y agoDo pepsi and coke taste the same? Are all soft drinks interchangable? I don't really care about this, but Krispy Kreme donuts taste much better than Dunkin Donuts.
- stephenr 7y agoIf you show me someone who buys coke at twice the price because they don’t like Pepsi I’ll show you a fucking moron.
- pfisch 7y agoYou mean the price of Coke and Pepsi vs Big Shot cola? I would prefer buying nothing at all vs dunkin donuts. I guess I would pay double for Krispy Kreme because to me we are talking about something I want vs something I never want even for free(Dunkin).
- jsight 7y agoPeople routinely buy Pepsi|Coke at twice the price of off-brands and I wouldn't call them moronic.
- ianhawes 7y agoMarkets can stay irrational longer than you can stay solvent.
- ceejayoz 7y agoI won't pay twice the price (disregarding that the restaurant price is probably already twice the price of getting it at Costco), but I may just grab a water.
- pacaro 7y agoFWIW I think fountain soda costs less than $0.25 a serving, the restaurant markup on soda is way bigger than most people realize
- dang 7y agoHey, could you please review the site guidelines and stick to them when posting here? We're trying for a bit better than internet default. https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html https://news.ycombinator.com/newsguidelines.html
- cannonedhamster 7y agoIt's Dunkin now. They too hip and trendy for donuts, you pleb. Forget that Dunkin got started by providing working class people garbage coffee with warm donuts. It's all upscale now and they don't need no donuts, or Onion bagels. Edit: Pepsi and Coke taste worlds different. I don't prefer either but they do have massively different flavor profiles.
- jsight 7y agoThere is a vast difference in the style of doughnut between a regular glazed krispy kreme and a glazed dunkin. It is a big enough difference that they almost don't seem like the same product. Not saying one is automatically a lot better, but people have really strong preferences that make sense given the difference in style.
- creddit 7y ago> It’s dough and sugar, the name on the box is meaningless. Agreed. This is why I don't bother with CPUs from Intel or AMD. I just pour sand onto my motherboard.
- stephenr 7y agoWhat the fuck kind of response is this? Clearly i was referring to just buying donuts from a different shop.
- saagarjha 7y agoBecause donuts vary, just like CPUs or any other consumer product.
- ofcourseianal 7y agoOk boomer
- htk 7y agoYou extrapolated, he did the same. I prefer his post better because at least I got a chuckle from it.
- ceejayoz 7y ago> Clearly i was referring to just buying donuts from a different shop. Clearly. Clearly, the response referred humorously to the fact that the brand and specific preparations of the raw materials can matter to consumers, for various reasons.
