I worked in the SDC industry. It’s mostly a science project.
Between its economics and its car I don’t understand why Lyft isn’t heavily shorted.

The amount of time someone spent on a software project isn't the best indicator of its quality... especially for science work where there's a large amount of knowledge transfer within the field. Lyft hired a top Google engineer to run the project and plenty of other experienced people. They weren't starting from scratch like Waymo and nor did Uber. The car simply shouldn't have been tested without a driver (or two) constantly paying attention. Clearly Uber didn't trust it to be running by itself yet (especially with the emergency brakes being disabled) but it basically was if the test driver wasn't paying attention.
