My kid now has a Chromebook for school, I'm pretty impressed, lightweight, amazing battery life, good Lenovo keyboard, screen could be better. It isn't powerful enough to do dev work, but with something like this terminal-like laptops could be perfect for dev work.
- Double_a_92 7y agoIs it really not powerful enough, or is it just not possible to setup a decent dev environment because of the Google lock?
- bergie 7y agoChromebooks have been able to run Android apps for a while, so dev environment via Termux was possible. And newer Chromebooks also can do a Linux container. But indeed, cheap Chromebooks are not that fast, so running tests etc remotely can be a good option there.
- rb808 7y agoGoogle lock is a big part of it, though Crostini looks to fix that. The main part is though most Chromebooks have low powered processors like Celerons, which is great for price, battery life, weight and heat.
