Unity is the other mature 3D engine from 2005 :). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unity_(game_engine) https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unity_(game_engine). For some reason I thought Ogre was a lot older than it is.
- garmaine 7y agoIt is. At least 2001, maybe earlier.
- emmelaich 7y agoMaybe 3d dates from 2005? I thought OGRE was older, too. But maybe just 2d.
- parksy 7y agoIt definitely existed earlier than that. I found an old project in my backups for a 3d space game that dates from 2003 and can see a CVS update history on the web archive that stretches back to 2002. Also the footer copyright on this page says 2002. http://web.archive.org/web/20040220023104/http://www.ogre3d.org/modules.php?op=modload&name=Sections&file=index&req=viewarticle&page=1&arttitle=Features http://web.archive.org/web/20040220023104/http://www.ogre3d.... Not sure what the launch in 2005 entailed, probably a rebranding and freshening up to make it seem more serious and appealing to developers, but it was already one of the better 3d frameworks around at the time. I was able to extend it to support LUA scripting in my game engine, was well abstracted and really nice to work with.
