My goal was to start something and make people know each other around drinks and some interesting stuff like conference videos, latest news (react hooks / suspense at the time, Spring related, Functional Programming, ...). Really just to start something because teams are isolated and don't speak that much to each others. When something is not working it's always another team fault for example. I think you're right regarding the hiring process, ours is just "soso", we would definitely need more software veterans. We have some but not so many and even with events/meetings/chapters where we make decisions about code review/best practices and so on, but not enough seniors to actually enforce this in each team and keep an eye on it.
