Depends on and culture. Quite common where I live to commute by bike (Netherlands), even up to 45 minutes, also in winter. But you’re right of course for eg UK/US in most cases. Difference between ‘where companies are’ and ‘where (affordable) houses are’ is much bigger in less bikeable countries.
