Yeah, I know what you mean about the reduced daylight, we live at the same latitude as Nunavut. Fortunately good headlamps are plentiful on eBay, also works wonders for the kids when they're 2 years and older. If you're up north, maybe you also do cross-country skiing (or snow shoes). If so, you could consider getting a pulka like the Fjellpulken Children. It's awesome, but a bit expensive, and maybe hard to find over there.
