Happiness and suffering are tow sides of the same coin. They follow each other closely. Overdose of happiness will lead to an equal amount of suffering. Better to be indifferent to either and focus on equanimity, peace and harmonY.
- codr7 7y agoThis is very true, contentment and acceptance are two more worthy goals to aim for. I find them easier to relate to and more fundamental. My Yoga teacher used to say that it's useless to tell someone to relax, it's like telling them to not think of a pink elephant.
- The_rationalist 7y agoIs there scientific evidence that the more we have highly happy moments the more we have highly suffering moments? I does not match my experience of life.
- cheeko1234 7y agoI think it's more of the other way around. To have happy moments you have to have suffering moments to compare to how bad it could be. Basically: who gets happier when they get a gift? Someone who doesn't get gifts a lot, or someone who's always getting gifts?
