FDA Approves Drug with Potential to Treat 90% of Cystic Fibrosis Patients
- stevespang 7y ago. . . Trikafta will likely carry a list price of $311,000 when it arrives shortly on the U.S. market . . . Now that's compassionate marketing (sic). I guess smart people with CF will all move to Canada or Britain where the politicians in those countries place the sick first, and force Big Pharma to offer their medicines at responsible, affordable prices. All our US politicians sell out to Big Pharma lobbyists so they can rape and blunder us on new drugs . . .

- coolspot 7y agoThat’s around $3000/month for 15 years. Not that much for miracle of curing incurable.
- makomk 7y agoIt's a complicated drug (really three drugs in one with some careful work put into their interaction) for a rare condition with little in the way of treatment options. The R&D costs are horrendous with no guarantee that the result will work or that it won't be promptly obsoleted by some other drug from a competitor (as happened with Vertex's hepatitis C treatment).
- rkagerer 7y agoThanks @makomk and @coolspot. I didn't know what these type of drugs typically cost, what kind of dosage that $300k bought you, or who usually pays (insurers vs. government aid vs. private). Was genuinely wondering.
