I was in that same class. I recall that same professor also used smurf analogies to explain programming concepts. A peculiar man. I have fond memories of learning oberon. It gave me a deeper understanding not just of programming but the almost arbitrary conventions of popular OS’s, in where to draw the line between code, documents and applications (in oberon they were all the same thing), and how to use keyboard and mouse to manipulate items on a screen.
