I’m not a sysadmin type at all, and I haven’t used the competitors really. But it’s so easy to use! You don’t need to install anything on the servers. It’s basically just a way to run ssh scripts on remote servers in a way that makes complete sense. My impression of other tools, like Chef, is that they try to abstract away configuration and setup where ansible just feels what I would try to build if I had a bunch of ssh shell scripts. You’re always pretty close to the actual commands being run.
