At the time, I remember being pretty OK with taking the terrible with the good - it all felt like experimenting to me, and I gravitated towards more of the designer-y/artsy sites, rather than the games and cartoons. This was back when David Carson was highly influential designer (for good or ill), and I was coming from skateboarding/snowboarding culture, which (and I sound so old) was a lot different, 20 years ago. Like it was COOL to be really into Typography, and the messier, the better. Because, "The 90's" I guess.
